Reflecting on what it feels like to be a mom on the 10th anniversary of my Birthing Day.
Ten years ago I became a mom.

10 years.
The person I was before and the one I became that day the same, and yet somehow different. Though the change may not have been obvious from the outside, I felt it inside from the moment I brought my baby home. And over time that transformation has made its way to the surface of my being where everyone can see. In fact, I’ve been a multitude of different women since becoming a mom.
I always say that each of my children, along with each pregnancy, have brought lessons into my life that I otherwise may never have learned. But my oldest – that first child – he opened the door to who I am today. The value of community and having a village – the very message I live and breath daily – I learned because of him. There are people in my life today, fellow moms who I’m now blessed to call dear friends, because of my firstborn.
No one could have prepared me for the joy and struggle, the pride, loss of identity, the emotions (so many emotions), and everything in between that comes with having children. And I’m sure there’s so much more in store that will take me by surprise as I enter into this next phase of parenting. But I am so incredibly grateful for the blessing of being a mom. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Ten years ago I gave birth to my first baby, but also to my new being. That was my Birthing Day. And I’ve been re-birthing myself everyday since.
Much love,
